Our cycling route takes us through a pleasant countryside
of ancient olive groves, vineyards and traditional villages.
We pedal mostly on backroads at a leisurely, yet invigorating,
pace. In no time we arrive to our first destination, Sinardes,
a small town having pride in its culture. We'll visit the Museum
of Folk Art and History and a 15th century Venetian church.
The road continues to Pelekas, which is remembered as the
site where Kaiser Wilhelm II built a strategic observatory
to oversee inland and out to sea.
By the time we are ready for lunch, we arrive at Ermonies
Bay whose beach first beckons us for a quick dip in its warm
waters. A meal of fresh fish at a waterfront taverna overlooking
the blinding blue sea has made all that pedaling worthwhile.
On our return, we traverse the Ropa Valley where vineyards
abound. We will make our way lazily back to Corfu town as
we stop here and there to taste some of the homegrown wine,
perhaps even sit down and share a bottle with a local winegrower.
At the end of our ride you will be proud and amazed at the
territory you covered and pleased by the simple encounters
of the day. No doubt you will start wondering where and when
you will cycle next on this scenic island.
