You love the sea. You love the mountains. Well, this bicycle
ride has both!
Our route takes out of Kos town on an uphill trajectory
towards the Dikeos mountain range. We'll spend the morning
when we are fresh and energized climbing up to the mountain
ridge, about 600 meters high. The ascent will not be hard
because you will be completely distracted by the beautiful
scenery along the way. From the top of the ridge you'll be
rewarded with spectacular views, the best on the island.
A string of mountain villages and hamlets await our exploration,
from tiny, unvisited Agios Dimitrios to colorful Zia, the
highest village on Kos. There'll be plenty of homemade handicrafts
to buy and local thyme honey.
We continue cycling to Pyli which has a medieval castle
and ruins we will explore after lunch. We’ll eat in a traditional
taverna serving local specialities and regional wine.
After lunch, our cycling is effortless. It is all downhill
to the beach at Marmari where we will linger for the rest
of the afternoon. Marmari is the least crowded beach on Kos'
northern front, yet it still attracts its share of windsurfers.
On our return to Kos town the sea will remain in constant
view. As we cycle into the bustle of the city, you will assuredly
miss the tranquility of the Dikeos mountains. Don't be surprised
if you find yourself plotting your next bicycle ride up to
Zia!
